First Baptist Church in Tipton Indiana is an independent, fundamental, missionary minded baptist church. We are a Bible (KJV 1611) preaching, Bible practicing church. Our desire is to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and see the lost come to Christ for salvation, help the wayward to be restored to fellowship in the Lord and those, who know the Lord, maintain a consistent daily walk with the Lord and grow into mature Christians with a Christ pleasing life and testimony.
The purpose of First Baptist Church OF Tipton Indiana is to bring glory, honor, and praise to God the Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ, for the purpose of religious, educational, and charitable worship. As a local Independent Baptist Church, we shall accomplish this by (1) our gathering together as an assembly of believers to preach, teach, sing, fellowship, and worship around the Saviour and the Bible; (2) exhorting one another to a Godly, holy life that we may please our heavenly Father and be effective witnesses to the unconverted; (3) supporting any Biblical method of evangelism and growth of true Christianity in our community and world, including starting other Baptist churches.
This purpose is further expressed in the Church Covenant (Article III). This Covenant shall be read occasionally in the presence of the assembly and shall be accepted by each member for the purpose of promoting the foregoing objects, this church shall have the right to acquire either by gift or purchase and to hold, own, sell, mortgage, or encumber in any manner, lease and improve real estate and personal property for itself and other, either as trustee or otherwise, also including any automotive vehicle. The church shall also have the right to operate a Christian school, if the need arises, as an arm of this church, not as a separate entity.
This church is subject to the control of no other ecclesiastical body, but it recognizes and sustains the obligations of mutual counsel and cooperation which are common among Baptist churches. We are affiliated with no convention, association, or fellowship. The only one who has control over this church will be the Lord Jesus Christ.
Having been led by the Holy Spirit to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the public confession of our faith, having been immersed in the name the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another. As we are one body in Christ, we shall be one in this local assembly.
We purpose, therefore, by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the growth of this church in all knowledge, holiness, service and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to attend services regularly; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to give it a pre-eminence over all institutions of human origin; to give faithfully of time and talents in its activities; to give cheerfully as God has prospered us, to the support of the ministry, the expense of the church, aid to the brethren, and the spread of the gospel throughout all nations by supporting missions and missionaries directly.
We also purpose to maintain family and private devotions; to train our children according to the word of God; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our conduct; to avoid all gossip, backbiting and unrighteous anger; to abstain from all forms of fleshly or worldly activity which dishonor our Lord Jesus Christ, cause a fellow believer to stumble or hinder the winning of a soul to Christ; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the cause of Christ, our Saviour, and to give him pre-eminence in all things.
We further purpose to encourage one another in the blessed hope of our Lord’s return; to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to maintain Christian compassion and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, mindful of the commandments of our Saviour.
We moreover purpose that when we remove from this place we will as soon as possible unite with some other church of like faith and order where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word. In the event there is no such church, we shall seek, with the Lord’s help, to establish one.
